Brexit : Theresa May Asking For Delay

Theresa May

On April 9th, the British Prime Minister Theresa May met the German Chancellor Angela Merkel in order to ask for a delay until June 30th. She is also going to meet the French president Emmanuel Macron in the next few days. Actually, a summit is going to take place on Wednesday 10th. All EU states will vote on an extension of the Brexit and the verdict will be delivered next Tuesday, whereas the UK was supposed to leave the EU on Friday 29th March.

However, several diplomats making part of the European General Affairs Council in Luxembourg are in favour of a delay, and even for a longer extension. Moreover, Jean Asselborn, the Luxembourg’s Foreign Minister, thinks that the UK would “certainly not” leave without a deal on Friday. Besides, if the UK is still a member of the EU, the country will have to take part in European Parliamentary elections. To conclude, British government is committed to Brexit, but others are asking a second referendum.
