2019 Six Nations Championship

Six-Nation Championship

The Six Nations Championship is an annual international rugby union competition between the teams of England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales. The current champions are Ireland, having won the 2018 tournament.

The tournament was first played in 1883 as the Home Nations Championship among the four Home Nations with England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. The tournament then became the Five Nations Championship in 1910 with the addition of France. The tournament was expanded in 2000 to become the Six Nations Championship with the addition of Italy.

The 2019 Six Nations Championship begins on Friday, 1st February 2019 with France and Wales getting the first match underway at the Stade de France in Paris, then on Saturday 2nd February 2019 Scotland play Italy followed by Ireland versus England at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

The Championship runs until 16th March 2019 when all three fixtures of Round 5 take place on the same day known as ‘Super Saturday’ which starts with Italy versus France in Rome, followed by Wales versus Ireland at Principality Stadium and culminating in England versus Scotland at Twickenham.

On the first day, France lost 19-24 against Wales, on the second day Scotland won 33-20 against Italy and Ireland lost 20-32 against England.

For the moment, England and Scotland are first with five points; Wales are third with 4 points; France is fourth with 1 point; Ireland and Italy are last without points.

In our mind, this competition is very interesting for the people who like playing rugby but it is also fun to watch it when you don’t really follow the sport.
